Whether you’re looking for a vintage bike basket, a kids bike basket or anything in-between, we have plenty on offer at BikeChain! Bike baskets are typically seen on commuter bikes. Although not very aerodynamic, a bike basket is incredibly practical for carrying all manner of items, including school books, work briefcases, grocery items, picnic food and more. Taking this weight off your person (for example, a backpack) and onto the bike makes commuting a lot easier on your back, neck and legs. As such, you don’t have to lug the load around - your bike is doing an excellent job of it on your behalf! Baskets and bags are made from a wide variety of materials, including rattan, synthetic weave, plastic, mesh, waterproof fabric and more. Where are bike baskets located? It is very common to see men or women’s bikes with a basket attached either to the front or back. Kids bike baskets are typically always located on the front of the bike.
Bikes with a basket call for balanced weight distribution. It is important not to overload them; otherwise, you might compromise your balance. We recommend common sense when considering what you should and should not put in your bike basket. Ideally, avoid breakable or fragile items. Under no circumstances should you put an infant or child into bike baskets; this is illegal for obvious reasons. However, provided you have the right carrier, then you may place your pet in a basket (more on that below).
As mentioned, a plastic bike crate resembles a retro-style milk crate. They are simple, square, and the only real differentiator is a choice of colours. In contrast, bike baskets are available in all manner of materials and can be fully sealed, waterproof and come in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes. To put it simply, if you want more choice, then go for bike baskets.
Provided the pet is comfortable and can easily fit, then you can carry it in a suitable pet bike basket, absolutely! If your pet is travelling in a bike basket for the first time, we recommend a short ride in a safe area devoid of vehicle traffic, such as your garden or a park. Place their blanket on the base of the basket to make them feel as comfortable as possible (and to help act as a shock absorber). You might also want to include their favourite toy or teddy. Get your pet used to the concept before you go out on the road and it becomes stimulated with all the sights, smells, sound (not to mention speed!). We strongly recommend a frame to go over the basket, so there is no chance of your fur friend making a dash.
