A clean bike is a happy bike – and a happy rider! Keeping your bike clean and well-maintained isn’t just about making it look good, it’s also important to keep it running smoothly. Regular cleaning and basic maintenance will prolong the life of your bike and save you money in the long run.
Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to clean your bike.
Step 1: Gather your cleaning products and materials
Optional: Morgan Blue Rolls Pro Lubricant
Step 2: Start with your frame and wheels
Using your Morgan Blue Bike Wash or Bio Bike Cleaner and Bike Cleaning Glove, give the frame and wheels a good scrub. Pay extra attention to any areas that are particularly dirty or muddy. Once you are done scrubbing, rinse the bike with water to remove any soap residue. If you have a quick release on your wheels, remove them so you can clean the rims and spokes. Use the Morgan Blue Quick & Clean Brush to get into all the nooks and crannies.
Step 3: Clean your drivetrain
The drivetrain is the part of the bike that includes the chain, cassette and derailleurs. The cassette is located at the back of the bike near the rear wheel whilst the derailleurs are located on either side of the bike frame, near the wheels.
Firstly, use your Cassette Brush to remove any visible dirt and grime from the chain. Then, apply some soap to a rag and wipe down the chain thoroughly. Once you’ve finished cleaning the chain, rinse it with water and dry it off. Repeat these steps for the cassette and the derailleurs.
Step 4: Clean your wheels
Cleaning your wheels is important for two reasons:
1. To prevent rust and corrosion
2. To keep the wheels looking good and extend their lifespan
Firstly, remove any mud and dirt with a Wheelbrush and water. Next, use the Morgan Blue Bike Wash or Bio Bike Cleaner with water to clean the rims and spokes, rinse off with clean water. Finally, dry the wheels with a clean cloth or towel.
This process should be done regularly to keep your bike wheels in top condition.
Regular cleaning a maintenance will prolong the life of your bike. So, next time you’re wondering how to clean a bike, follow our simple step-by-step guide and you’ll have it sparkling in no time!
