What Features Should I Look For in a Quality Road Bike Helmet?
Depending on your specific cycling needs, a good helmet for road riding will include features such as:
- Excellent cushioning/protection and impact-absorbing materials
- Great ventilation
- Lightweight
- Aerodynamic design
- Comfortable-fitting
- Compliant with the AS/NZS 2063 standards code
Are Road Helmets Different?
Yes, road bike helmets are typically different to mountain bike helmets in that they are lighter, more aerodynamic and ventilated, and feature less rear and side coverage.
How Do I Know if My Road Cycling Helmet Fits?
Your road bike helmet should sit balanced on your head, with the straps creating a ‘v’ shape around your ears. You should be able to fit two fingers between the chin strap and your actual chin. Shake your head - if the helmet moves around, it’s too big or loose. It should fit snugly without squeezing or feeling uncomfortably tight.
How Long Does a Road Helmet Last?
All our road helmets are quality designed and manufactured. However, even if your cycling helmet is in mint condition, we recommend replacing it at least every three years. If you have a significant crash or impact whilst wearing your helmet, we recommend immediate replacement, even if you cannot see any signs of cracks or structural damage.
