Where are Alpinestars from?
Like so many bike-riding brands of prestige and pedigree, this family-owned business hails from Asolo in Northern Italy. It was there in the early 1960s that a leather craftsman, Sante Mazzarolo, cottoned onto the fact the emerging sport of motocross was gaining popularity. Recognising his skills as transferable, Sante set about creating footwear that would protect against this rigorous sport. He created a remarkable, revolutionary new boot, applied the Alpine Starflower to it and, hey presto, an icon was born.
To then cut a long and illustrious story that spans two-wheel athleticism short, the brand began its MTB life in the mid-1980s. It was in ‘86 that Sante’s son, Gabriele, took the brand to California, and the world went wild for it. Alpinestars has forever since been one of the brands in protective MTB gear.
