Who are Respro - reusable face masks for cycling
Respro® Masks have been manufactured and distributed from the UK for over 20 years and claim the title of ‘the original and the best’. Following the coronavirus pandemic, it’s probably no surprise to hear the range has expanded rapidly into new markets worldwide. Viruses aside, the need for protection from pollution in urban environments grows every year. Increased awareness of air quality is now on most people’s radar. Respro® Masks provide a solution to the pollution issue, but they also make a pretty striking statement about the air we breathe (and the fact it’s not nearly as healthy as it should be).
Are face masks effective?
This is an interesting question - it depends on the mask and how it is used. To work effectively, it must seal the nose and mouth from the external environment. Inhaled air must move through the face mask filter, which traps gas or vapour molecules and, in turn, removes the pollution before you breathe it in. A nose clip plays a key role in all of this, as it helps create an efficient seal (if it’s not ‘air tight’ then unfiltered air can sneak in through the mask sides). Respro® refers to this problem as ‘Inward Leakage’. A one-size-fits-all mask will likely result in a poor fit and a compromised seal. For this reason, the brand offers three sizes within its range.
