How to choose a cycle bag
Looking to upgrade from a backpack or storing things/items in the back of your jersey? You should ask yourself the following questions:
How many items are you looking to carry with you?
What sort of riding will you be doing (for example, off-road/touring, commuting or road cycling)?
What riding conditions will you be riding in (for example, rain)?
After asking yourself these questions, you can evaluate what size bag you need, the weight, accessibility to take on and off your cycle bag, and whether you need a weatherproof cycling bag.
What size cycling bag should I get?
Not sure what size cycling bag you need? We’ve got an easy-to-follow guide to point you in the right direction.
Small size (saddle bag)
If you’re looking to carry a few small items such as a CO2 canister, CO2 dispenser, tube and tyre leavers, you should get something small such as a saddle bag. These are great for road cycling, as they are light and compact. If you’re looking for a saddle bag and this fits your needs, we’d recommend the Arundel Gordo Seatbag.
Medium size (handlebar bag)
Looking to carry a few extra items such as a spare tube, mini pump, nutrition, spare clothing and/or your phone. A handlebar bag is a great option for a quick weekend ride or a gravel grind with quick access on the go! The Handlebar bag from Ortlieb is a great medium size option that we believe is an indispensable item when you’re on a bikepacking tour in the great outdoors.
Larger size (pannier bag)
If you’re looking for something to carry your groceries, work laptop and change of clothes or some extra gear for your next touring adventure, pannier bags are a fantastic option. You can choose between a single or double pannier bag depending on your needs. These sit on the back of your pannier rack and are easy to install. Basil makes great bags such as the Basil Tour Double Pannier Bag 28 Litres and the Basil Bloom Field Bicycle Shopper Bag (that doubles up as an over the shoulder bag).
Something to fit your bike (Bike bag):
Looking to travel with your bike? You can get a bag for your bike! A bike bag is a great option to avoid lugging around a bike box or having your bike loose when travelling. Bike bags have specific compartments to keep extra gear, wheels to roll it around and extra padding to keep your bike safe and sound. If you’re looking for a quality bike bag with functional features look no further than the B&W Bike Bag 2.
