Bike cable lock
Also sometimes referred to as a bike chain lock, a cable lock offers great flexibility; the length allows you to weave them around multiple wheels (perhaps even linking them to another bike as well as a stationary object). However, obviously, this means a lot more weight to carry and storage space to find when they’re not in use.
U-lock bike lock
The name u-lock, which some brands will refer to as a d-lock bike lock, is an obvious reference to the shape of this particular lock. These are typically cheaper and lighter than some chains. However, they offer the same degree of durability and protection, although they can be a bit clunky to get properly in place on the bike. The Kryptonite lock offers plenty of choices when it comes to this style.
Regarding the actual lock itself, your options are a key or combination code. The pros and cons here are obvious and come down to what is really best suited to you. For example, a key doesn’t require you to remember any codes, but it can be lost (and found by the wrong person). In contrast, the only way to lose a code is to forget it (which can certainly happen to the best of us!).

What to do if you lost your bike lock key?
Try to circumvent this in the first place by taking your key to a locksmith and getting a copy cut, as you would for a house or car key. Leave this in a safe place as a security blanket. If you’ve not done that and your key is missing, you will likely have to visit the locksmith with the bicycle lock and see if they can cut one for you. Failing that, you will probably have to either replace it (if it’s not affixed to the bike) or use bolt cutters to remove it.
How to lock an e-bike?
Locking an e-bike is no different to locking any other kind of bike. It’s just that, typically, e-bikes are more expensive than regular bikes. As a result, you’re particularly incentivised to make them as secure as possible. We recommend at least two locks per bike, as mentioned previously.
Can bolt cutters cut a bike lock?
Sadly, the answer is yes. If a rotten bike thief is motivated enough, they will find a way to steal your bike, including using bolt cutters. This is a pretty dramatic tactic and one that might alert passers-by if it’s happening in a high-traffic area. The best you can do is:
Park your bike in a busy place
Use more than one
Ensure everything that can be secured is secure
Make sure the stationary object to which you are attaching the bike cannot itself be lifted and stolen!
