Bicycle Crates
Bicycle Crate Benefits
- Ample storage space - don’t be deceived; the number of things you can load into a bike crate basket like this is not to be underestimated. Smaller crates are 17.5L, whilst the biggest can hold as much as 40L.
- Looks terrific - whoever came up with the idea for a milk crate bike was a modernist genius. We think the 70s set the bar high when it came to looking effortlessly edgy.
- No-nonsense - a simple alternative to a bike carrier that is devoid (literally) of any frills, bells and whistles.
- Great colour range - choose mono or a pop of colour, whatever you prefer.
- Road safety - we recommend a carrier for the back of the bike as this will ensure you can still manoeuvre handlebars easily. Add safety lights and reflective panels for extra visibility (check out these terrific bike crate reflector stickers).
- Low maintenance - clean with a spray of the hose and then leave to dry! Don’t worry if it gets wet; it can handle all the elements (although obviously, your contents are another matter).
What is Basil?
Hailing from The Netherlands, bicycle baskets and carriers from Basil are some of the world’s most respected. Perhaps you won’t be surprised to hear this company was founded in the 1970s… The Basil range includes bicycle baskets, bike travel bags, cycling bags and, of course, pet carriers for your fur-friend co-pilot. The brand is known for its terrific quality and affordability. Certainly, when it comes to Basil bike crates, they maintain standards for cool design, retro appeal and long-lasting durability. They also come with a very smart-looking logo plate embedded into the sidewall of the carrier (looks great but also helps make it obvious you didn’t steal this from a milk bar!).
How to attach a Basil bicycle crate to your bike
The installation process is like the item itself - low-maintenance. Assuming your bike has a bicycle rack on the back, simply place the rear bike crate on the rack. Use the Basil crate mounting set to affix the item into place. If you want to take the rear bike crate off now and again, use an adapter plate. The Basil model is compatible with adapter plates from MIK, Racktime and AtranVelo. However, a reminder that you need to purchase adapter plates separately.
