When should I wear short sleeve cycling jerseys?
You could wear them right through the year. However, unless you are particularly hardcore, cycling full throttle from start to finish, or don’t feel the cold, you will need to wear additional gear during winter. A simple jersey on its own is no match for the cold!
A great tactic most seasoned cyclists use is to layer up. So wear a base layer, a windproof short-sleeve cycling jersey, a bicycle jacket and maybe even a vest during winter. Then, as you settle into the ride and start to warm up, you can take off layers as you go (and put them back on again whenever needed!). It’s a smart idea if you know you’re going to be cycling at varying intensities or up and down hills (going up is toasty; coming down can be Arctic!).
What is the difference between men’s and women’s short sleeve cycling jerseys?
Given the anatomical differences between the two, men and women can often select gender-specific cuts. These consider a woman’s typical body shape being wider around the chest and narrower in the hips and shoulders. Otherwise, men's and ladies short-sleeve cycling jerseys are often quite similar. Indeed, it’s not unusual to see both genders out and about in a bunch, all wearing the same jerseys. Yes, there are subtle differences in terms of cut, but often, design and colour are unisex. Of course, several brands release women’s specific designs that might appeal more to females than males. However, in this day and age, each to their own, right?!
