Considered a highlight in the amateur cycling calendar and among the most epic granfondos in Europe for years, the Granfondo Stelvio Santini just could not be missed this year.
2020 has been quite a (unique) year to say the least.
In the cycling community, this means that the year has brought much of outdoors, indoors. A few months have been spent cycling in the safety of people’s homes – all in the name of social distancing. In the world of granfondos, Granfondo Stelvio Santini is no different.
While Santini and the organizers consider safety and eliminating COVID-19 as top priority this year, they also recognize the passion that runs through each cycling enthusiast’s veins. Considered a highlight in the amateur cycling calendar and among the most epic granfondos in Europe for years, the Granfondo Stelvio Santini just could not be missed this year.
Thus, on June 7th, the Granfondo Stelvio Santini took place on a virtual platform.
Participants came together and competed using ROUVY, which provided a realistic virtual training experience through live video footage within the app.
Rouvy has also been the official virtual training partner of IRONMAN – one of the reasons why Santini and the organizers have partnered with the app.
The virtual event featured very special guests such as Vincenzo Nibali, Tour de France and Giro d’Italia winner, as well as Mirinda Carfrae, three-time IRONMAN World Champion among others.
The women's event was organized together with Ride Like a Mummy, a project that offers obstetric, gynaecological and psychological support to women going through difficult pregnancies or who have had a complicated birth as well as those with new-borns in intensive care. In fact, the Granfondo Stelvio Santini donated one euro for every participant in the women-only race.
The event featured participants from 60 countries.
