Campagnolo's evolution is relentless, and the world of mechanical transmissions is about to change with the arrival of a new and sophisticated innovation: the 12-speed Record Disc Brake groupset.
The twelfth sprocket heralds a new era for mechanical groupsets, allowing cyclists to achieve levels of versatility that have never been reached before, matched with Campagnolo’s typical quality and reliability. The design of the new Record™ 12x2 Speed groupset originated from a blank canvas, redesigning all components to improve their performance, while maintaining the same overall dimensions to retain full compatibility with the frames and wheels on the market. The 12-speed chain, with a thinner design than the previous one, has a life span equal to or longer than the 11-speed model. The crankset has been completely redesigned, with the aim of being effective even with wider chain crossings; the rear derailleur has a rocker arm capable of supporting sprockets of up to 34 teeth. The front derailleur has been lightened to reduce overall dimensions, while maintaining its effectiveness on different frames and types of bicycles.
The hydraulic disc brake system is a further addition to all this, offering power and braking modulability without sacrificing ease of wheel maintenance and shifting, thanks to the introduction of a few technical measures.

Description
New mechanical Ergopower 12X2 Speed Record Disc Brake controls: comfort, control, speed, reactivity.
The new mechanical Ergopower 12x2 Speed Record Disc Brake controls take full advantage of the widely respected, proven Campagnolo technologies and have become indispensable for those who are in the saddle for extended periods. One such technology is Vari-Cushion, which offers an ergonomic, comfortable and safe support and grip. There is also the “one lever-one action” feature that assigns each lever one function to prevent shifting errors. The Ultra-Shift mechanism enables upshifting up to three sprockets at a time and downshifting a full five.
Furthermore, the new mechanical Ergopower 12x2 Record Disc Brake controls offer lever adjustability that utilises Reach Adjustment to move the brake lever closer to the low grip, thus adapting to the different hand sizes. AMS Adjustment allows modulating the moment of shift engagement through the use of specific levers. The carbon fibre brake levers feature a unidirectional disposition of the fibre to ensure they match seamlessly with the other components of the groupset.
New mechanical Record™ 12 Speed rear derailleur: precision, lightness and versatility.
Designed to improve performance and function in every aspect, the new Record™ 12 Speed mechanical rear derailleur has an innovative shape that envelopes the sprockets better thanks to 3D Embrace technology, creating a double effect: allowing the chain to maintain optimum traction at all times, thus increasing the speed, power and precision of shifting; and ensuring that the derailleur is always kept an optimal distance away from the sprockets.
The cage has also been optimized to work with sprockets from 11 to 34 teeth, allowing a single version to be maintained for all available sprocket sets. The upper part of the new Record™ 12 Speed mechanical rear derailleur gearbox is made of carbon fibre-reinforced technopolymer, contributing to its robustness and lightness, while the stop adjustment screws at the back of the rear derailleur make adjustments very simple.
The new mechanical Record 12x2 Speed derailleur: speed, dexterity, precision and effectiveness.
The Campy Tech Lab designers focused on functionality, performance and compatibility when redesigning the new front derailleur. The new Record™ mechanical 12x2 Speed derailleur reveals various technical innovations; starting with the leverage system, which is designed to speed up shifting. Less effort is required for shifting thanks to the split front link rod, which avoids contact with the travel limit screw, and the shape of the inner cage plate, designed to match the new 12 speed chain’s characteristics.
The micro-adjustments to the front derailleur position (which can be activated by the controls) make it possible to avoid any chain contact, even in cases of maximum crossing. The plate positioned on the aluminium outer cage prevents the chain from escaping when upshifting and increases speed in the downshift phase, as well as creating a quieter transmission.
As far as compatibility is concerned, the new Record™ 12x2 Speed front derailleur allows tyres up to 32mm thanks to the new upper connecting rod and the double fixing of the cablex.
The new Record™ 12x2 Speed crankset: a new hole-free design for the right hand crank that optimises aerodynamics.
The new carbon fibre Record™ 12x2 Speed crankset with unidirectional finishing guarantees continuity with the finishings of the entire groupset, whilst maintaining the Ultra-Torque bracket system on the steel axle to ensure perfect transmission of power. The new Record™ 12x2 Speed crankset can be installed on any type of frame, whether or not it is being used with disc brakes because it optimises the chain line on the frame with a rear hub flange measuring 130, 135 or 142 millimetres, without affecting the Q factor that remains constant at 145.5 millimetres.
The innovative design of the outer chainring ensures faster, quieter derailing owing to the contoured pin. The symmetrical design of the inner chainring teeth allows improved stability with chain crossovers.
The double wheel sizing standards (112 and 145 millimetres) enable reducing the weight through greater use of carbon fibre. There are eight fixing screws for increased structure stiffness. The varying number of pins for each of the three chainring combinations (34/50, 36/52, 39/53) facilitates upshifting due to the optimised free strokes associated with each combination. The special drains on the inside of the outer chainrings optimise performance when downshifting in dead spots.
New Super Record™ 12 Speed sprocket cassettes: innovation which gives the user great advantages, thanks to the matching dimensions and complete compatibility with wheels and frames.
The rider has always been Campagnolo’s focus, and the goal has always been facilitating their performance; making the impossible possible. Adding an additional sprocket might seem simple, however we have not only succeeded in maintaining the same footprint, but also improving the component’s performance and durability, which was a tricky challenge!
The new Super Record™ 12 Speed sprocket sets feature thinner sprockets, tighter spaces and space-saving dimensions that are the same as those of the 11 Speed sprockets, meeting everyone’s needs with three 11/29, 11/32, 11/34 cassettes (the 11/34 cassette is compatible with the mechanical Super Record ™ and Record ™ groupsets.) The addition of the twelfth sprocket allows a linear upshift or downshift by a single tooth, up to the seventh gear, allowing the cyclist to find the perfect ratio for any situation.
In addition, the closer sprockets ensure faster, quieter and more precise shifting thanks to the special tooth design and surface treatment which guarantees a longer life span. The 6 larger sprockets are also available in two single-piece steel triplets, to avoid energy loss. Mounting the cassettes is easy thanks to matching-thickness spacers.
New Super Record™ 12 Speed chain: slim, robust, smooth and precise.
The chain, in all its apparent simplicity, plays a critical role in the cyclist's safety and in optimizing the entire transmission mechanism. The new Super Record™ 12 Speed chain also had to be redesigned from scratch to work with all the other new transmission components. Therefore, the first and most important objective was reducing its overall dimensions. Its width is now 5.15 millimetres, thanks to the new pins which are perfectly aligned with the links’ outer surfaces.
The second objective was safeguarding its performance. This was achieved thanks to the Ultra-link system that makes the chain safe and durable, and a special treatment that guarantees extreme smoothness and precision shifting.
ampagnolo brake calipers: powerful, modulable and reliable.
The flat-mount Campagnolo brake calipers ensure powerful, modular braking in any situation owing to pistons measuring 22 millimetres in diameter. The pad return is now optimised to ensure that there is no friction when the brake lever is released. A special metal plate positioned between the pad and the caliper piston, cushions the vibrations during braking.
The different Campagnolo brake calipers were designed to be mounted together with the disc chosen by the rider and to always guarantee the highest level of performance. It is indeed possible to choose the brake caliper with a disc measuring either 140 mm (limited to cyclists weighing no more than 82 kg) or 160 mm in diameter. Careful attention was given to making maintenance and assembly operations easy: the pads have wear indicators and replacing them is facilitated by the absence of physical return springs. Additionally, work was done on the insertion of the disc in the caliper to make changing the wheel easier and faster.
Campagnolo 03 rotors: utmost efficiency and compatibility.
The Campagnolo 03 rotors were designed to ensure optimal resistance to overheating, thus guaranteeing greater braking capability even in the most critical situations.
Engineered to be installed on Centerlock or AFS systems, they are available in either 160 or 140 millimetre diameters and are perfectly safe owing to rounded corners that facilitate insertion in the calliper as well.
